X-Linked Hypohydrotic Ectodermal Dysplasia (XLHED)
Telephone Genetic Counseling
Individuals with a personal diagnosis or family history of Hypohydrotic Ectodermal Dysplasia (HED) are eligible to receive free telephone-based genetic counseling through InformedDNA. Counseling services include an overview of HED, discussion of the hereditary nature of the condition and implications for relatives, explanation of genetic testing, and a discussion of past and current clinical treatment trials.
This program is specifically designed to help detect and diagnose patients and families with XLHED, but genetic counseling appointments are available to all families with HED.
Genetic counseling appointments can be scheduled online or by phone. Either way, you will be asked to provide some information about your personal medical history as well as your family history. Your genetic counselor will ask about parents, children, siblings/half-siblings, aunts and uncles, grandparents, and first cousins.
